LAURA ROMITO has been a culinary professional for the past 12 years. She is a graduate of Schoolcraft College's Culinary Arts Program (valedictorian, no less!) and is a kitchen alum of the Golden Mushroom. Laura was originally a high school teacher and it was always her dream to share her love of food and cooking with others. Laura has taught both demonstration and hands-on cooking classes throughout metro Detroit at facilities including Williams-Sonoma and private homes. She has worked with some of the area's best chefs, many of whom will be featured on our tours.
While developing both a catering business and cooking school for Holiday Market in Royal Oak, she met and built strong relationships with culinary professionals throughout Metro Detroit. Her dream now is to help build relationships between foodies and the owners and artisans of exceptional local fare. Laura has been practicing yoga for over 10 years and is now an instructor working with parents, teachers and students in the Royal Oak School system.
LAURA GONONIAN, a native of Birmingham, has traveled in the former Soviet Union, Middle East and extensively throughout western Europe including the foodie meccas of Italy, France and Spain. She has lived in Chicago, New York, Boston and the Republic of Armenia all the while developing an interest and passion for good food.
Her professional experience is varied taking her from program director for an international environmental concern to a consultant to embassies and governments. For the past three years Laura has worked at Williams-Sonoma as a knowledgeable sales associate and demonstrating food and cooking techniques. She is presently working towards a graduate degree. Laura enjoys hunting for new and unusual foods, venues and restaurants and is always ready for a road trip. Her secret desire is to be a farmer.
Both Lauras graduated from Albion College and minored in music...which goes to show that it really doesn't matter what you study in college!
