Greetings! Now I’m not sure how far reaching this little blog
o’mine is spreading these days, but just in case some of you live in the
nor-eastern edge of our fair city, I have some good news for you. This coming
week, look for the grand opening of a brand new LAZYBONES SMOKEHOUSE!! Woo-hoo!
I guess that means Taste-full Tours will have to bend its rules a bit on our
“no chain” policy. We are thrilled
for our good friends, Deni and Jen Smiljanovski, and encourage you to patronize
their new digs. The restaurant is
in a shopping center area on the north-west corner of Garfield and 19 Mile Rd.
They’ve got the sign up and everything, so I guess they’re serious about this.
Those of you who frequent the current location (Groesbeck and
696) will be happy to know it’s the same great food, but now in a regular
sit-down locale with fun colors and art work, comfy booths, and good lighting.
The kitchen is partially open, so it will be fun to see the food making its way
to your plates. They’ll also do catering – whatever you need – so keep them in
mind for your summer BBQs.
They had a little gathering yesterday for some friends and
family members, and we Romitos were lucky enough to be included. The ribs were
perfect – nice smoke, and just enough chew to the meat before it slipped off
the bone. The chicken was crisp, moist, and tender at the same time. Just as is true at the original
location, Deni has just one small freezer and a simple walk in cooler - a
testament to the fact that he makes everything fresh, and takes in new product
every day. You can always be sure you will get good quality, fresh food there.
Now if only we could get them to move to Royal Oak!
What Lazybones does is real BBQ, not grilling like the majority
of folks do at home. BBQ is cooked “low and slow”, over low heat for a long
time. That’s how they get the tender, flavorful quality. But just in case you
don’t have 4 – 6 hours to spend standing at your grill, I’ve included my
favorite home recipe for baby back ribs. They are really tender, can be done in
advance (in fact they’re best cooked the day before you want to serve them, and
then finished on the grill right before you eat), and they are pretty
delicious. Enjoy them with grilled corn on the cob, grilled asparagus or
broccoli (my personal favorite), and some cornbread. And just so you know, the
best place to get good cornbread is Lazybones Smokehouse ;)
Have a great week everyone!

Usually, Quicksilver/Roxy makes me think back to 6th grade when all the cool kids were sporting it... but this collection? I just want to snuggle up in those sweaters with a mug of coffee in front of a fire... at least once it's not in the 90's anymore!

It's a side of Jacqueline Kennedy only friends and family knew. Funny and inquisitive, canny and cutting. In "Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life With John F. Kennedy," the former first lady was not yet the jet-setting celebrity of the late 1960s or the literary editor of the 1970s and 1980s. But she was also nothing like the soft-spoken fashion icon of the three previous years. She was in her mid-30s, recently widowed, but dry-eyed and determined to set down her thoughts for history.

It was the policy of the good old gentlemen to make his chileren feel that home was the happiest place in the world; and I value this delicious home---feeling as one of the choicest gifts a parent can bestow.

Business underlies everything in our national life, including our spiritual life, Witness the fact that in the Lord's prayer the first petition is for daily bread, No one can worship God or love his neighbor on an empty stoach.
